Chapter Meeting Report of 15 April 2016 Brooklyn, New York

The cSusy Murphy Debra Levy Eldercare Associateshapter meeting of the Mid Atlantic ALCA was held on Friday, April 15, 2016.  Thirty-five members attended the meeting.

Treasurer’s Report

The chapter currently has $12,074.35 in the treasury. Even after the merger with the national chapter, this amount remains available for our chapter only.

Looking Toward the 2017 Board

We are currently looking for board members for 2017, and ideally we would have board members from all different areas of the chapter.

Several board members expressed why they have enjoyed being on the board:

“You get to know people. It enriches your experience and increases your network.” Janice Duffin

“I wanted to give back and grow. It is another way to network.” Mary Faith Ferreto

“I have enjoyed the camaraderie.” Ellen Platt

New Mid-Atlantic Guide

Steve Gurney of Greater Washington Publishing and the Guide to Retirement Living also attended the chapter meeting. He distributed the new Guide for the Mid-Atlantic chapter to distribute to our clients, partners, and referral sources. The guide was developed at no charge to the chapter, as sponsors underwrote the printing, etc.  He will be donating $5000 to the chapter from the income generated by advertising in the guide.

Mid-Atlantic Units

The chapter currently has five units: Virtual, Northern Virginia, DC/Montgomery County, Baltimore, and Philadelphia.

Discussion was held about units, and some new members asked if they could form a new unit in Pennsylvania for members outside of the Philly area. That is definitely an option, and one that should be considered if you are not near a current unit. If you are thinking of doing that, please contact me so we can guide you through the process.

As a chapter, we plan to reach out to new members to be sure they know what unit they are assigned and when they meet.

Chapter Conference

We are not holding a chapter conference in 2016.  We are beginning to form committees for a 2017 chapter conference. We have six volunteers to date, but definitely need more to carry this out. Contact me if you are interested.

Merger with National ALCA

Once the merger with National was complete, our chapter became a committee within the larger organization. Discussion was held about whether our board should be a board or an executive committee. This will be discussed further, and if anyone has any thoughts about it, please email me.

Our current board is lacking a President Elect.

Please tell a board member if you are interested in being on the board.

Finally, anyone can listen in on board conference calls. Our next call is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24 at 4:30 PM. Contact me or Amanda Mizell at the national office if you are interested in joining the call.
