New Member Spotlight – Janet Carter, Corewood Care
Please welcome Janet Carter to the ALCA Mid-Atlantic Chapter and DC Unit! She’s part of dedicated team of care managers at Corewood Care who provide assistance and support to home-bound clients in DC and Montgomery County. Janet’s Aunt Helen was a care manager in Prince George’s County and told her she was called to this profession. “I didn’t listen to her at first, but in the end, I found out she was right, and if you knew Helen Barnes, that is not a surprise.”
Janet enjoys looking at the whole person and being able to think outside the box. She enjoys working with clients and their families, and her personal experience of caring for her parents help her relate to her clients’ experiences on a deeper level. As a social worker, Janet has experience working with families, complex family relationships, hospice, dementia, and senior living communities.
Janet is passionate about listening to older adult’s goals and helping them focus on quality of life and dignity. She’s also passionate about people with mental health diagnoses (particularly anxiety) and dementia. There is much in these comorbidities that we don’t understand at this time and by joining the organization she hopes to grow in this profession and learn more about the field from her colleagues.
In addition to English, Janet speaks just enough French, Spanish, and German to navigate a major city and order in a restaurant! In her free time, she enjoys the arts and going to the Kennedy Center frequently. On a quiet day, you will find her curled up with a cup of coffee and a good book.
Janet can be reached by phone or email at Janet@corewoodcare.com.
